Watch: Shakib Al Hasan gets into a fight with referee during Bangladesh Premier League match

All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh got into a fight with the referee during the game between Fortune Barishal and Sylhet Strikers in a Premier League match in Bangladesh on Saturday.

The incident occurred during the 16th over of Barishal’s innings when Strikers’ bowler Rejaur Rahman Raja delivered a slow bouncer that was not given a walk by the umpire. However, Shakib was sure it was beyond him and called for a wide.

Things took an ugly turn when an enraged Shakib charged at the referee and yelled at him as the two got into a heated argument. In the end, Sylhet skipper Mushfiqur Rahim had to intervene and spread the tension.

Shakib scored 67 runs but his team lost the match by 6 wickets as Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy and Zakir Hasan came together as Sylhet chased the 195 run target.

A few days ago, Shakib Al Hasan had made a reference to the Bollywood film ‘Nayak’ in a scathing critique of his country’s cricket board for failing to market the Bangladesh Premier League.

In the film, Shivaji Rao (Anil Kapoor) is challenged by the chief minister to run the state for a day and solve the problems.

“If they made me the CEO of BPL, it would take me one or two months to straighten things out. Have you seen the movie Nayak? If you want to do something, you can do it in one day,” Shakib told reporters.

“I did the draft and auction of the players (on time) and kept the BPL in my spare time. We will have all modern technologies. There will be quality broadcasts and home and away locations.

“I don’t know anything about BPL’s standard. It’s hard to say whether we couldn’t or didn’t want to succeed. I don’t see any reason not to do it if we want to with the opportunity we have in Bangladesh. I don’t think we’ve ever really wanted to do anything,’ Shakib had said.
