Victrola unveiled its latest streaming turntable at CES 2023.
The Victrola Stream Onyx – a more affordable version of last year’s Stream Carbon deck – has been certified by the Works with Sonos program so you can stream music from your records to anywhere in your home.
While the Stream Carbon launched for $799 (around £720 / AU$1200), the new Stream Onyx will cost $599 (around £500 / AU$900) when pre-orders open in the US on 7 January.
“We’ve kept all of the amazing DNA of the Victrola Stream Carbon, with a few changes to the materials and finish, so we can deliver this great solution to even more Sonos homes around the world,” said Scott Hagen, CEO of Victrola .
Victrola won’t go into too much detail, but it appears the US audio maker has replaced the Stream Carbon’s carbon fiber tonearm with a cheaper aluminum tonearm. However, buyers still get a “premium cartridge” in the box.
The turntable should fit snugly into your Sonos system without the need for additional equipment. And you can control it through the Sonos app on your mobile device, meaning control is at your fingertips from anywhere in the house.
Victrola thinks the budget-friendly Onyx delivers a “bold, vibrant sound” which should pique the interest of those who still find the vinyl revival underwhelming.
Excited to get your hands on one? The Victrola Stream Onyx is available for pre-order on Amazon.com and Victrola.com starting January 7, ahead of general availability in the US at the end of February. The device is expected to arrive in Europe “later in 2023”.
