Racing Club de Lens handed Paris Saint Germain the first defeat of the season. A 3-1 battering in Ligue 1. After the match, Lens defender Facundo Medina cited the absence of one player as a major reason why the result went in his team’s favour.
“I don’t like to talk about the rival, but they missed the best player in the world,” said Medina. “Do you still doubt whether Messi is the best? I think it’s a strange question you’re asking me. We have to enjoy him.”
An Argentina international, Medina shared his experience watching Messi lead his national team to their third World Cup title in Qatar 2022.
“I had my family here with me for the World Cup, I lived it with them and it was an incredible thing. We suffered, but like all Argentina fans, I am more than happy with how everything went and with the group that is Most of them did an incredible job and it makes me happy because I’m with most of them and that makes me really happy, I hope they continue that way.
He also went on to talk about another attacking player in the PSG line-up that they missed.
“They also missed Neymar, of course, but we try to look at our tools and from there we try to make our game, beyond what player is in front of us. Today it was like that and I hope we continue in this way,” he said.
With the defeat, Lens has now closed the gap to the leaders with four points in 17 games. This was the first defeat of the season for the Ligue 1 champions, who also drew twice.
Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. are expected to return earlier this week for the French champions in training.
