Sennheiser Consumer and German hearing aid manufacturer GEERS are starting a pilot project with Custom Comfort Tips in which customers in Germany can have personalized earplugs made for the company’s wired IE Series earplugs.
The pilot was set up to provide users of the Sennheiser IE 200, IE 300, IE 600 or IE 900 earphones with custom ear tips that fit their ear canals perfectly – something the company says significantly reduces the sound perceived by the wearer. affects. The technology behind it uses a scanner or silicon mass to measure each ear and produce left and right tips that are “exceptionally comfortable” and, most importantly, provide optimal sound reproduction for the user.
If you are a journalist or creator visiting High End Munich later this month, you can also join the initiative by having your ears scanned at the Sennheiser booth on the Thursday or Friday of the show.
Custom fit has been an area of focus in the headphone market lately, with many wireless model companion apps delivering optimal fit testing. And of course, tailor-made tips from specialist companies have been on the market for years.
But while this is a limited-reach pilot program for now, its success could potentially allow Sennheiser to offer custom tips as part of (or an add-on to) future IE orders. And if it did, it would no doubt increase their appeal to many. We’ve recently found the most affordable model, the IE 200, very likeable buds for the money, just like the IE 900 before, the top of the range.
