Mumbai City FC beats Odisha and regains the top spot

Lallianzuala Chhangte hit a brace and put on another as Mumbai City FC beat hosts Odisha FC 4-2 in a relentless second-half strike to extend their winning streak to seven games in the Indian Super League here on Monday.

The home side had a solid defensive start and Mumbai City failed to break through goalkeeper Amrinder Singh’s resolute defense in the first half. But the Mizoram midfielder started the goals as he opened the scoring in the 55th in a good combination with Jorge Diaz.

Diego Maurcio equalized six minutes later, but Mumbai came back stronger to score through Bipin Singh (68th).

Chhangte set up substitute Alberto Noguera (86th) to make it 3-1 before virtually killing the match, completing his brace in the 79th minute.

Out of the blue, Mauricio got in the act in the 90th minute and brought his double forward, but it was only consolation for the home side who suffered their fifth defeat from 12 games to remain on 19 points.

Undefeated from 12 games, Mumbai City FC secured their ninth win of the season to recapture first place, two points ahead of Hyderabad FC.
