A PlayStation Store page for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been spotted, suggesting more details about Insomniac Games’ next web-slinging adventure could be shared soon.
Noted by Twitter user Wario64 (opens in new tab), there was previously a special offer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 live on the PlayStation Store in the UK, allowing players to wishlist the upcoming PS5 exclusive. Since Wario64’s tweet, the page appears to have been removed, with the link now pointing to an error page. However, you can still see the page listed on Google (opens in new tab). It’s unclear if the page was accidentally pushed live or not.
To add even more fuel to the fire, developer Insomniac Games’ Community Director, James Stevenson, recently said tweeted (opens in new tab) a cryptic gif from the official trailer for the game (opens in new tab)with the two spider-men Peter Parker and Miles Morales standing next to each other.
The combination of the gif image and wishlist page discovery, which were spotted within days of each other, has led many fans to speculate that this could be the creative team’s way of teasing incoming news. We can expect details on the long-awaited return of the web-shooting crusader soon, though it hasn’t been officially confirmed.
Spidey feels tingling
Swinging from skyscraper to skyscraper, chasing bad guys and running up the outer wall of your apartment building to get home for dinner: it’s all a day job for the Spider-Man. The first installment of the action-packed vigilante game made an impact in 2018, and if the trailer is anything to go by, we can expect the sequel to pack an equally big punch.
But why is there reason to believe that we could get new information now? It’s just a gif and a broken Google link, so why hope? Part of the answer is that Nadji Jeter, the voice actor of Miles Morales for both the Spider-Man movies and the video games, has been very active on his personal Twitter.
on December 8 Jeter retweeted (opens in new tab) a tweet from September 2021 from the official SpiderMan account – which is quite a deep dive to share a year-old trailer. This isn’t the only thing Jeter promotes to his 28,600 strong followers. The day before, on December 7, he retweeted (opens in new tab) Response from Insomniac Games to a fan replaying the first game, in which the developer said it was the “perfect time to jump back in”.
Combine these cryptic retweets with the PlayStation Store page and James Stevenson’s self-contained gif, and it looks like Insomniac Games is alluding to looming news – though this may just be wishful thinking.
The story so far
It’s been over four years since Marvel’s Spider-Man came out and, with the exception of a trailer released in 2021 and various bits of information released by the developer, we haven’t heard many details about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
In a 2021 podcast interview, Marvel’s Creative Vice President Bill Rosemann teased that the sequel would be darker and grittier, stylistically compared to Empire Strikes Back. From the trailer unveiled on the PlayStation Showcase that same year, we gathered that the sharp teeth Venom will be a major opponent in this sequel on the hunt for Peter Parker and Miles Morales through the sprawling New York cityscape. We know that Venom will be played by horror icon Tony Todd, who voiced the original Candyman in the 1992 slasher film, backing up Rosemann’s hint that the Spider-Man sequel will take a darker turn.
We also know that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is expected to be a PS5 exclusive, and there are no plans to ship the title on previous generation consoles or PC just yet (although the latter will likely be at some point). Since there is no new concrete information yet, the only thing you can do is clear: obsessively innovate leaked PS store page (opens in new tab) and hope for the best.
