Indycar series 2023 preview
The Indycar Series is back for another portion of tire-guzzling American motorsport action, with this season the latest before some major rule changes.
Last year’s thrilling series saw Australia’s Will Power crowned Drivers’ Champion after winning just one race, while Team Penske teammate Josef Newgarden finished second despite winning in five races.
Two-time champion Newgarden has finished second in the title race three years in a row and will be determined to take it one step further this season and pry the title away from Power in what looks to be another fascinating battle between the two teammates.
Veteran racer Scott Dixon, meanwhile, will be in the hunt for a seventh IndyCar Series title as he aims to tie AJ Foyt’s record for most open-wheel championships in North America.
This year’s series is the last for a switch from 2.2-litre engines to hybrid engines for 2024, but there are also some major rule changes for this year. Double points for winning teams have been dropped for this series, while 100% renewable fuel will be introduced for the cars in the new season (take that, Formula 1).
With 17 races at 15 tracks across North America, the 2023 Series kicks off, as usual, on March 5 in St. Petersburg, Florida, with the season highlight being the Indy 500 on May 28, before the final race at Laguna Seca in Monterey , California on September 10.

ExpressVPN is our pick of the best VPN services. It is affordable, fast and easy to use. Try it risk-free for 30 days and see for yourself.
How to use a VPN to watch Indycar
1. Log in to the VPN of your choice. ExpressVPN (opens in new tab) is the one we recommend.

You could also try NordVPN (opens in new tab)which also comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee, and Surfshark (opens in new tab) who provides assistance 24 hours a day. Both performed very well in our tests.

In the US, Indycar coverage belongs to NBCUniversal, meaning you can use several of the media giant’s platforms to watch all the action.
Each race will be broadcast live on the streaming service Peacock. All but three races will be broadcast on NBC Sports and NBC Universo.
