Fyne Audio has unveiled new “retro-inspired” Vintage Fifteen and Vintage Five loudspeakers at the Bristol Hi-Fi 2023 show.
The speakers are being marketed as “ultra, retro, cool” luxury speakers and will be available “in March or April” at an undetermined time.
Here’s what you need to know about them.
Vintage Fifteen
The Vintage Fifteen is the main option in the company’s current line-up, with a pair retailing for a hefty £29,999.99 (prices for other regions to be confirmed). They are also the largest in Fyne’s Vintage line, sitting above the newly unveiled Five and older Vintage Ten and Twelve.
Each 93kg speaker is also loaded with what Fyne describes as “the most ambitious and dynamic” IsoFlare driver to date.
The point source transducer system features a massive 15-inch (380mm) multi-fiber cone mid/bass driver with Fyne’s 75mm titanium dome, neodymium motor compression tweeter. Beyond this, the speakers offer 97 dB/W sensitivity, 800 W peak power, and bass down to 22 Hz.
Visually, Fyne’s also described the speakers as the “most ambitious” to date. Their designs are apparently inspired by the 1970s and having seen them on Bristol Hi-Fi we can confirm that they are very impressive visually.
The cabinets are hand built from birch plywood finished with walnut veneer. As an extra class, they also feature gold anodized metalwork and a “retro textured” grill.
The dual-cavity enclosure is also apparently mathematically shaped to reduce standing waves and ported down to Fyne’s largest BassTrax LF diffuser system to date – the design reportedly allows the 15-inch driver to displace the largest volume of air without port turbulence as seen from a Fyne loudspeaker.
We haven’t had any listening time with the Fifteen yet, but according to Fyne, the system allows the speaker to deliver audio with the precision and scale of a full orchestra. We’ll be excited to hear if this is true when we get them into our listening rooms.
vintage 5
The Vintage 5 is the smaller, more affordable option of the two, with a pair retailing for a more modest £3,749.99.
They have a smaller bookshelf size, despite looking almost identical to their larger floorstanding siblings.
The Five features Fyne’s smallest IsoFlare driver combining a 5-inch (125mm) multifibre cone mid/bass driver with FyneFlute surround and a 19mm magnesium dome HF compression driver with a neodymium motor system.
The IsoFlare driver is built into a cast aluminum chassis and includes Fyne’s flux focus magnet. The combo reportedly helps eliminate vibration coloring and boosts bass sensitivity.
Like all Vintage speakers, the Five is hand built from birch plywood, which is hand finished in oiled walnut veneer and burr walnut inlays. Like the larger Fifteen, it also features anodized gold trim and a leather grille tab.
As was the case with the Fifteen, we haven’t had any listening time with the Five, although the demo units we saw on the Bristol Hi-Fi showroom floor certainly caught our eye and we’re eager to get them into our listening room. rooms as soon as possible for proper testing.
