Could you improve the sound quality of your hi-fi products by just adjusting the input power? Cyrus Audio claims it does, and it’s launching a new device that does just that.
The PSU-XR is the most intelligent power supply Cyrus Audio has ever made. Using the built-in microprocessor, it can ‘talk’ to the device it is connected to, determine its exact needs and adjust its configuration of power sources accordingly. According to Cyrus Audio, this optimization ensures better sound quality from the partner device.
However, you cannot use it with just any hi-fi device. It’s only compatible with Cyrus’ XR range, but the best part is that thanks to a software update, it will also work with future devices in the lineup, such as the upcoming Blu-OS XR streamer. And it will also visually match the XR series, as the device is encased in Cyrus’ signature half-width chassis design.
The output voltages of the PSU-XR are digitally controlled, reducing noise. Cyrus claims some big advantages over its PSX-R2 power supply – the new model is apparently 60 percent more powerful and 50 percent more efficient.
The Cyrus PSU-XR is available now and costs £2395 / $2850 (about AU$4200).
