A man convicted in Compton last year for the murder of his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend has been sentenced to 26 years to life.
Before Victor Sosa was sentenced on Wednesday, Daisy De La O’s parents were given a chance to tell the court how he destroyed their family.
“He knew my Daisy outgrew him. He knew my Daisy didn’t want him anymore,” the victim’s mother, Susana Salas, said of Sosa during her victim statement.
“All I ask today, Your Honor, is that this parasite should never, ever live a normal life, just as he seized the opportunity that I would grow old without my baby.”
The 19-year-old was murdered in February 2021. According to her family, Daisy broke up with Sosa over what they believed was an abusive relationship.
A month after their breakup, Sosa called Daisy to meet at the family’s apartment in Compton.
The sheriff’s investigators say he killed her there by slitting her throat, rolling her up in a rug and dumping her body next to the family’s apartment complex. A bloodied knife was found next to her.
After he fled, a search immediately followed.
Daisy’s friends posted TikTok videos of Sosa asking the public for help finding him. He was eventually found in a restaurant in Rosarito Beach, Mexico.

He was taken back to Southern California to face trial, where he was convicted in May of first-degree murder.
“There is still no sense that can fill the void that you don’t have the chance to see your daughter grow up,” Juan De La O, Daisy’s father, told the court.
Salas told Eyewitness News, while she’s glad the legal process is over, she will spend the rest of her life grieving the loss of her daughter.
