SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A carjacking victim died after being dragged nearly a mile by a murder suspect who fled Los Angeles police on Thursday, officials say.

The incident began around 5 p.m. with LAPD officers from the 77th Division following two people in a car, including a suspect wanted for murder. They were driving on block 5900 of 7th Avenue and then crashed near Florence and Haas Avenues.

The murder suspect jumped out of the passenger side car and then carjacked another vehicle.

The driver of that car became entangled in his own vehicle and was dragged nearly a mile into the street as the suspect continued to flee.

That person has died.

The suspect later crashed and rolled over at Florence and Prairie Avenues in Inglewood, but refused to leave the crashed vehicle. A stalemate ensued for about two hours, after which the suspect was arrested.
