Known for its bold, angular in-ear headphones, Campfire Audio has now entered the world of wireless. Introducing Orbit, Campfire Audio’s first true wireless headphones.
The company isn’t one for doing things by halves, but claims it’s managed to squeeze out 8.5 hours of runtime on a single charge, plus a further 30 hours from the included carrying case.
If true, that trumps the Sony WF-1000XM4 and Apple AirPods Pro 2 (although these also have active noise canceling that drains the battery, admittedly), just shying away from the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 Plus’ total battery life of 45 hours.
Campfire has developed new 10mm dynamic drivers specifically for the Orbit – these have a film diaphragm made from Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP). The company claims this diaphragm gives extra brightness, space and energy, while the drivers provide ample depth and low-end punch – but as we haven’t tested them ourselves we can’t validate any of these claims.
The inclusion of Bluetooth 5.2 means they play nice with the AAC and aptX Adaptive codecs, supporting 24-bit/48KHz audio. And you can charge via USB-C or a Qi wireless pad.
The Optimus Prime-style design isn’t just for eye-catching. Campfire claims the two-tone cases are “shaped to be extremely comfortable,” while the stainless steel mouthpiece and grille should make them hard-wearing. Touch controls are standard and there’s a microphone on board for hands-free calling.
And the case. Look at that green interior!
You can use the app to customize the controls on the dial and choose your audio setting with the seven-band equalizer and presets. Future firmware updates are promised to further improve the user experience.
The £249 / $249 / AU$429 price tag is much lower than many of Campfire Audio’s other headphones, but it’s still at the higher end of true wireless earbuds. For that price, they’ll face stiff competition from the likes of Sony XM4, AirPods Pro 2, Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II, and Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3.
The Obrit earbuds are available now from Amazon or directly from Campfire Audio.
