The CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS) has been trying to address companies around the world in an effort to further bolster the status of the cloud.
Speaking at the opening keynote of the company’s AWS re:Invent 2022 event in Las Vegas, Adam Selipsky highlighted how leveraging the cloud can benefit companies concerned about their economic situation.
“When it comes to the cloud, many of our customers know to lean in,” Selipsky said. “The cloud is more cost effective and many customers save 30% or more – if you want to tighten your belt, the cloud is the place to do it.”
Cloud targets
In a comprehensive keynote that spanned the vastness of space to the depths of the ocean, as well as the world of the imagination, Selispky outlined how AWS can be an essential partner for businesses at every stage of their cloud journey.
“Managing the scale and growth of data is both a huge challenge and an opportunity,” he noted. “You need a complete set of tools that take into account the scale and variety of data. AWS is focused on building all of these capabilities.”
Selipsky admitted that “working with data is tricky,” noting that the world will more than double the amount of data produced since the dawn of the digital age.
Data is “the cornerstone of almost any organization’s digital transformation,” Selipsky said, with the company’s vast array of databases, analytics, and other tools ideally placed to help businesses of all sizes make the most of this mountain of data .
Elsewhere, Selipsky spoke about sustainability issues, highlighting them as “the issue of our generation”.
AWS has made a significant push towards going green in recent months, with the company announcing on re:Invent that it aims to work towards 100% renewable energy by 2025 — a goal Selipsky says is already 85% complete. The company also aims to become “water positive” by 2030, as it appears to help address climate change, which Selipsky says is “an issue for all of us.”
“We are determined to be inventive and relentless as we work to make the cloud the cleanest and most energy efficient way to run all your infrastructure and your business,” said Selipsky.
