Aston Villa manager Unai Emery ‘desperate’ to sell Emiliano Martinez, Argentina’s controversial World Cup-winning goalkeeper

In a stunning development, Fichajes.net, which deals with the football transfer market, has reported that Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is ‘desperate’ to sell Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez.

Martinez played in Argentina’s World Cup triumph, winning the Golden Glove, and has said Leo Messi thanked him “for giving him the World Cup”.

But Fichajes claims Martinez may be in the January transfer window. They claim that Emery is not impressed with his temper and wants him out. Sevilla’s Yassine Bounou, who also shone at the World Cup, has been mentioned as a possible replacement.

“The break between the two is complete and the former Villarreal coach is pulling all possible strings so that the goalkeeper’s departure from the Argentina team is complete,” Fichajes reported.

Emery’s public statement on Martinez was about his celebrations in which he mocked Mbappé.

“When you have big emotions, sometimes it’s hard to control them,” he said during his pre-match press conference.

“I will speak to him next week about some festivities, but I respect that he is now under the national team and if he will be with us, he is our responsibility, then we can talk about it. We are so proud of him. He won the World Cup with his national team and that’s great.” But Fichajes reports that not all is well.

France has filed an official complaint against Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez for brutally trolling Kylian Mbappé after the final between Argentina and France. Martinez also held up the Mbappé dummy as he stood alongside Mbappé’s PSG teammate Messi during the epic bus ride celebrations in Buenos Aires.

Immediately after winning the World Cup, in the dressing room, the Argentine players danced around the dressing room after their triumph and were heard all singing “a minute’s silence for” in succession, before leaving a gap for goalkeeper Martinez to shout: “For Mbappe who is dead!”

It remains to be seen whether Fichajes’ prediction comes true.
