Before Elden Ring, before Sekiro, before Bloodborne, before Dark Souls, even before Demon’s Souls, developer FromSoftware was known for an entirely different series: Armored Core. If you’ve never heard of it, it could be that it’s been a decade since the last game was released.
After a long, long, long wait, FromSoftware has finally unveiled Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicon, and it looks beautiful.
Set in the far future in the previous games, you played the role of a mercenary, piloting an Armored Core mech for various warring companies. the later games focused more on multiplayer battles, where you teamed up with a stack of other players to fight in big robot battles. But the earlier games had single-player campaigns filled with exceptionally demanding mecha combat.
It’s hard to tell from the Armored Core 6 reveal trailer, but it looks like the game is returning to its single-player roots. Sure, the atmospheric movie doesn’t feature massively Armored Cores.
There are few details about the game, we know it’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC and it’s due out in 2023. So, so far, so Armored Core.
